Chris Turner is an award-winning lyric baritone. His performance portfolio includes national and international performances of opera, oratorio, choral masterworks, and musical theater.


Chris Turner, lyric baritone, is a native of Pascagoula, Mississippi.He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in church music and vocal performance, double majoring at the undergraduate level, from Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. During his time there he was a frequent state, regional, and national vocal competition winner.His Doctor of Musical Arts in voice performance with a minor in vocal pedagogy was earned at Louisiana State University under the guidance of Robert Grayson, a leading tenor at the New York City Opera for many years and a teacher to internationally well known singers such as Lisette Oropesa, Paul Groves, and Chad Shelton. While there, Turner competed in various national competitions becoming a semi-finalist or finalist.His post-doctoral study was in vocal pedagogy at the Eastman School of Music under the experienced tutelage of Kathryn Cowdrick and Robert McIver.Turner also gained experience through the years having worked with legendary teachers and coaches such as Virginia Botkin and Harold Heiburg of the University of North Texas and the internationally renowned vocal pedagogue Richard Miller of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.Turner has performance experience singing in opera, musical theater, and choral masterworks. A few examples of his performance credits include Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Silvio in I Pagliacci, Maletesta in Pasquale, Figaro in Barber, Neville Craven in The Secret Garden, baritone soloist in Brahms' Requiem, Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Creation, Handel's Messiah, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Schubert's Mass in G, Stainer's Crucifixion, Bach's St. Matthew, Duruflé's Requiem, and Saint-Saëns' Christmas Oratorio.
